Registration is underway for the 81st Scientific Sessions! The ADA will present groundbreaking science in a virtual meeting June 25–29, building on the online programming delivered internationally to more than 12,500 attendees in 2020.

The health and safety of faculty, attendees, staff, and exhibitors amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic was the driving force behind the decision to transition the Scientific Sessions to a virtual-only experience for a second year.

“As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin, we will offer the most relevant and up-to-date science so that, together, we continue to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide living with diabetes,” said Dana Dabelea, MD, PhD, Chair of the 81st Scientific Sessions Meeting Planning Committee.

The educational program features more than 180 sessions highlighting the latest innovations in diabetes research, prevention, and care. Expert speakers will discuss COVID-19, kidney disease, obesity, heart failure, health equity, and more in the context of the 460 million people living with diabetes across the globe. Major trial results featured in the program include:

  • Efficacy and Safety of Dapagliflozin in Patients with and without Type 2 Diabetes Hospitalized with COVID-19—Results from the DARE-19 Global Randomized Controlled Trial;
  • Results of the Glycemic Reduction Approaches in Diabetes—A Comparative Effectiveness (GRADE) Study;
  • Tirzepatide—A Novel Dual GIP/GLP-1RA—Results from the First Phase 3 SURPASS Clinical Trials; and
  • Update on SCORED and SOLOIST Cardiovascular and Kidney Outcomes Trials.

The Advance Program gives attendees their first opportunity to examine the meeting in-depth, with detailed speaker, topic, and schedule information. Over 330 oral presentations and over 1,000 poster presentations selected from abstract submissions will be included in this year’s program.

Professional Interest Group discussions and Achievement Award lectures help round out opportunities offered at the Scientific Sessions.

Late-breaking abstracts in basic, clinical, and translational science will be accepted via online submissions until March 15.

Health care professionals including physicians, family physicians, international physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, psychologists, social workers, and certified diabetes care and education specialists can earn up to 34.25 continuing education credits during the Live Virtual Meeting (June 25–29, 2021) AND up to 340 CE credits are available during the Post-Meeting Archive (June 30–September 29, 2021).
