What is your presentation about?
This presentation outlines the strategic evolution of the ADCES/CBDCE Fellowship, now a grant, which is designed to empower Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (DCES). Initially focused on funding early-career PhD research, the program broadened its scope to include Quality Improvement (QI) projects for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) candidates, alongside traditional research. These adjustments, including securing institutional support and diverse funding, aim to enhance the DCES’s ability to conduct impactful studies and QI initiatives. Ultimately, the goal is to accelerate advancements in diabetes care by demonstrating the significant contributions of DCES professionals to improved health outcomes.
How do you hope your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?
I am hoping that the presentation will emphasize the importance of quality improvement and research to demonstrate the impact of the diabetes care and education specialist on health outcomes among people living with or at risk for diabetes.
How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
I initially became involved as a member of the ADCES Research Committee. Later as the President of ADCES I was selected to chair the committee charged with restructuring/realigning the ADCES/CBDCE Fellowship to reflect the strategic goals of each of the organizations, and refining terminology from “fellowship” to “grant.”
