What is your presentation about?

I will be discussing the importance of therapeutic inertia (TI) in diabetes management focusing on ADA’s “Overcoming Therapeutic Inertia” (OTI) initiative. I am hoping to share some of its main activities and outcomes. I am also planning to share a couple of TI researches done in my community teaching hospital.

How do you hope your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?

My main objective is emphasizing the importance of recognizing therapeutic inertia in our clinical practice. Only when we can gauge the extent of TI, will we be able to address it. I am also hoping to point out some of the OTI activities and guide the audience to different resources available on the OTI website.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?

I was invited to the first OTI meeting organized by ADA and later involved in initiative at different capacities until it concludes its activities. I continue to use knowledge I gained during this project to train learners in recognizing and tackling therapeutic inertia. As I have passion for inpatient glycemic management, I did QA and QI projects on TI in hospital glycemic management.
