What is your presentation about?

In a rapidly changing and rapidly advancing environment, it can be tough to keep up to date with the current state of diabetes care and outcomes. This presentation aims to provide the attendees with an overview of current outcome metrics, continued gaps in care, and the priorities for the future of pediatric type 1 diabetes care. By sharing real-world and population health outcomes and interventions, we will set the stage for the next iteration of diabetes care in children.

How do you hope your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?

By reviewing data on outcomes in pediatric type 1 diabetes, we hope to highlight progress made over the past several years while simultaneously discussing the continued gaps in care and areas for improvement. This discussion will present the ADA’s National Type 1 Diabetes Committee’s review of the state of pediatric type 1 diabetes, and suggest future direction in management.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?

I credit my interest in pediatric diabetes care to a college friend named Lindsay. She and I met during college, and it took several years before she shared her type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Seeing her manage the daily burden of type 1 diabetes with grace, resiliency, and determination was inspiring. Watching her fight this disease so successfully is the reason I’m a pediatric endocrinologist. I will never be able to thank her enough for providing the inspiration to my vocational calling.
