What is your presentation about?

There is an urgent need to support the adoption and sustained use of diabetes devices among youth with type 1 diabetes and their caregivers from safety-net hospitals. This presentation highlights the adaptation for youth of an effective community health worker (CHW)-led intervention to promote diabetes technology use in young adults with type 1 diabetes (PI: S. Agarwal, R01DK132302). The youth adaptation was guided by intervention mapping and informed by qualitative feedback from participants in the parent CHW trial.

How do you hope your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?

This work aims to shape future research and care models by demonstrating how community-based, CHW-led interventions can improve diabetes technology uptake and outcomes in youth with type 1 diabetes.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?

Working at a safety-net hospital in the Bronx, New York, I see daily the complex challenges that youth with type 1 diabetes face in managing diabetes, fueling my dedication to improving their care. This commitment is deeply personal, rooted in my own experience with diabetes and a desire to make the journey more manageable for future generations of youth living with type 1 diabetes.
