What is your presentation about?
This presentation will review the evidence and the recommendations for management of high blood pressure in patients with diabetes based on the 2025 American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology Blood Pressure Management Guideline. Recent evidence that lower blood pressure goals (to systolic blood pressure < 120 mm Hg) are beneficial in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, chronic kidney disease, and dementia will be reviewed.
How do you hope your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?
Blood pressure management rates in the United States and around the world are low, including in patients with diabetes. It is hoped that the attendee will be convinced to achieve better blood pressure management in their patient population.
How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
High blood pressure and diabetes are linked by genetic predisposition and by lifestyle factors, especially overweight and obesity. My research related to body weight and blood pressure led me to an increased interest in diabetes.
