What is your presentation about?
The first part of my presentation will focus on what social determinants of health (SDH) are and what we know about the associations between SDH and the risk of type 2 diabetes. I will then provide information on the current scientific evidence on interventions addressing SDH in diabetes prevention. I will conclude with some remarks about future research.

What makes this topic important in 2022?
Most interventions to decrease the risk of diabetes have been focused on strategies to modify lifestyle habits and risk factors of type 2 diabetes. There is an urgent need to target social determinants of health to reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
I was working in several large population-based projects to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and realized that we need to target social determinants of health to be more successful in diabetes prevention.

What are you most looking forward to at the 82nd Scientific Sessions?
Meeting with peers and friends/networking and the great scientific program.
