What is your presentation about?
Fasting the month of Ramadan could be a challenge for people with diabetes as well as health care professionals. The presentation will go through how to individualize risk assessment for people with diabetes, the key pre-Ramadan educational aspects as well as the treatment adjustment to help achieve a safer fast for those who wish to do so.

What makes this topic important in 2023?
Fasting Ramadan is practiced by over 150 million people with diabetes and Muslim backgrounds. Better understanding of the topic is essential as this is an annual issue for a month.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
I was a co-author in 2005 of the ADA Ramadan consensus and since then have been part of numerous guidelines and studies on the topic.

How do you think your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?
The topic is relatively new to many ADA attendees and much more research is required in this field. Hence, the presentation can lead to several new research topics.

What are you most looking forward to at the 83rd Scientific Sessions?
I’m looking forward to face to face interaction with colleagues from across the globe, to learn more and to share the information about our important presentation.
