Excess Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Women with Diabetes—A Not-So-Sweet Truth

Accumulating evidence has found that there are considerable sex differences in the excess risk of cardiovascular diseases associated with diabetes. In this Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Professional Interest Group Session, we will discuss how data demonstrates an excess risk for heart failure and cardiovascular disease in women with diabetes. We will also examine possible mechanisms, clinical implications, and future directions.
