What is your presentation about?

Delivering the National Diabetes Prevention Program effectively across diverse populations requires a strong understanding of participants’ needs. Drawing on over a decade of experience, I aim to highlight how prioritizing cultural relevance, language access, program flexibility, and strategic partnerships leads to improved enrollment, retention, and overall participant experience—ultimately supporting sustained positive health outcomes for participants. We will also explore the critical role of the Diabetes Prevention Alliance and community partnerships in expanding prevention efforts at both regional and national levels.

How do you hope your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?

We are thrilled to highlight the National Diabetes Prevention Program at the 2026 Scientific Sessions! Prevention is paramount, as a decrease in diabetes cases equals a lower burden on our health system and a better quality of life for all. For diabetes care, this presentation helps organizations understand how to build a program to better reach higher-risk individuals and improve health outcomes to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?

Working in the diabetes prevention and management space feels like the perfect intersection of my two careers: as a bilingual community health educator and as a group exercise instructor for more than 25 years. I have a passion for helping others live their best lives, regardless of their current health condition. When I led my first prevention cohort as a lifestyle coach over a decade ago, I knew in my heart this was my calling. What a gift to be a part of this important movement to change lives!
