Sunday, June 27 at 8:50 a.m. ET

Q&A with Dana M. Lewis, BA

What is your presentation about?
This presentation covers some of the available scientific evidence supporting the use of open-source automated insulin delivery systems. There are years of research and real-world data supporting its use. It’s now being used in the real world for scenarios ranging from intense exercise to pregnancy and more. People with diabetes should be supported in accessing their choice of diabetes technology, including the option of open source automated insulin delivery.

What makes this topic important in 2021?
Open-source automated insulin delivery systems have been in existence for more than 6 years, but many providers are still unaware of them as an option, or how they might support patients choosing to access these systems. This session covers data and perspective for healthcare providers who may have patients interested in this technology.

Which subset of attendees shouldn’t miss this presentation?
Providers who don’t have experience with automated insulin delivery systems, both open-source and commercial, will benefit from learning about some of the data and perspectives about patient populations who might benefit from automated insulin delivery systems.

What else should Scientific Sessions attendees know about your presentation?
There is a wealth of research available about open source (“DIY”) automated insulin delivery systems, and more research is ongoing. It is not regulatory-approved but that does not mean there is not scientific evidence available supporting its use.
