Registration is underway to join the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) in New Orleans, Louisiana, for the 2026 Scientific Sessions. Experts will present the latest cutting-edge advances in diabetes research, prevention, and care June 5–8 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

“This is a remarkably comprehensive meeting that covers the full spectrum of diabetes, from early discovery science all the way through to late-breaking clinical trials and implementation research,” said Marlon Pragnell, PhD, the ADA’s Vice President of Research and Science. “It’s very exciting and more integrated than ever, bringing together basic scientists, clinical investigators, and health care professionals. There’s something for everyone—both to deepen their expertise and to understand how their work fits into the broader effort to advance diabetes research and bring new therapies to people with diabetes.”
The education program will feature presentations in 200 sessions across 25 topic areas. The following highly anticipated sessions are among the highlights:
- The ADA’s Standards of Care in Diabetes: 2026 Updates
- Standards of Care in Overweight and Obesity: 2026 Updates
- GLP-1 Receptor Agonists: What’s New in 2026?
- Bridging the Gap: Advancing Stem Cell–Derived Beta-Cell Therapy toward Widespread Clinical Use
- Joint ADA/International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Symposium: What Is Malnutrition-Related Diabetes?
- Debate: Hope or Hype? Microbiome as New Frontier for Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity
- Amylin as a Novel Diabetes and Obesity Therapy
- Debate: Immediate AI Integration into Health Care Delivery: Considering Costs, Quality, and Clinician Burnout
- Consensus or Controversy? Hot Topics in Nutrition 2026
- Mapping Diabetes: Epidemiology in a Changing U.S. Demographic Landscape
- Debate – BMI on Trial: Should It Still Define Obesity

“Now, over 43 years into my career in diabetes research and care, I cannot think of a time, at a national level, when there’s been so much national and international attention around this disease. Thanks to the introduction of the GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) class of drugs and the dramatic results they’ve had on society, the introduction of continuous glucose monitoring devices, insulin pumps, and health care costs associated with diabetes drugs decreasing, diabetes is finally starting to the draw national attention we’ve long thought it deserved,” said Scientific Sessions Meeting Planning Committee Chair Mark A. Atkinson, PhD. “If you want to have the latest, up-to-date, accurate information on all of those topics and more—the psychosocial benefits of diabetes treatments, how diabetes treatments influence cancer outcomes or suicide rates, anything like that—this is your chance.”
The emerging research advancing efforts in the lab and in the clinic to improve the lives of those living with diabetes will be presented in a variety of session formats, including debates, panel discussions, special lectures and addresses, symposia, oral presentations, and poster presentations.
