What is your presentation about?
Cognitive dysfunction is a less recognized complication of diabetes. People with diabetes are 1.5 to 2 fold more likely to develop cognitive dysfunction and dementia. This has two important implications: 1) cognitive dysfunction impedes self care abilities thus treatment should be tailored appropriately; 2) The effect of diabetes pharmacological and non pharmacological agents on cognitive dysfunction is important.
What makes this topic important in 2022?
The growing number of older people (currently estimated at 25% of the population over 65) with diabetes make cognitive dysfunction and dementia an important complication of diabetes.
How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
Many years of research in the area.
What are you most looking forward to at the 82nd Scientific Sessions?
Interesting sessions, meeting colleagues, etc.
