The National Scientific & Health Care Achievement Awards Presentation and Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award Lecture will begin at 10:10 a.m. Monday in W-3001 (West, Level 3). Sadaf Farooqi, MB, ChB (Hons), PhD, will present the Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award Lecture—Obesity and the Biology of Weight Regulation at 11:00 a.m. to conclude the session.
The National Scientific & Health Care Achievement Awards are presented to recognize and honor individuals in the diabetes scientific and medical community who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and who have made significant contributions through their outstanding career achievements.
Here’s a look at all of this year’s honorees:
Banting Medal for Scientific Achievement
The highest scientific award bestowed by the American Diabetes Association. Given in memory of Sir Frederick Banting, a medical scientist, doctor, and Nobel laureate who is noted as one of the key investigators in the discovery of insulin, the Banting Medal is awarded annually to honor highly meritorious career achievement in the field of diabetes research.

Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award
This award is given to a researcher, less than 50 years of age, to recognize outstanding scientific achievement in diabetes research, taking into consideration independence of thought, originality, significance of discovery, and impact on his/her area of research.

Albert Renold Award
This award is given in the memory of Dr. Albert Renold to recognize an individual who has a career distinguished by outstanding achievements in mentorship and/or creation of a robust environment for diabetes research.

Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Diabetes Research Award
This award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions in patient-oriented clinical outcomes research that have had significant impact on diabetes prevention and treatment.

Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award
This award is presented to stimulate, acknowledge, and reward outstanding educational efforts by health professionals in the field of diabetes education.

Outstanding Physician Clinician in Diabetes
This award is presented to stimulate, acknowledge, and recognize a physician clinician for exceptional clinical knowledge and expertise in the care of patients with diabetes.

Harold Rifkin Award for Distinguished International Service in the Cause of Diabetes
Given in memory of Harold Rifkin, this award is presented to honor individual outstanding service in the cause of diabetes that has been performed with an international perspective and with international impact.

Kelly West Award for Outstanding Achievement in Epidemiology
