What is your presentation about?
Nearly all forms of life developed diurnal rhythms attuned to this cycle to anticipate daily environmental changes related to these phases and maintain physiological homeostasis. More than the hierarchy regulation from the central clock in the brain to peripheral tissues, there is a peripheral clock communication within the same organ. My presentation will discuss the intraorgan rhythmic communications of time signals that modulate the physiological function in metabolic disorders.

What makes this topic important in 2023?
Our understanding of the microenvironmental cues that regulate diurnal rhythms through signaling molecules is still limited. This presentation will delve into the identification and definition of these molecules as new time cues for biological clocks specific to each cell type.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
Having pioneered the first-ever single-nucleus RNA-seq in the liver, I am now engaged in functionally defining the mechanisms that govern intraorgan communication.

How do you think your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?
In my presentation, I will present findings that shed light on the signaling mechanisms through which hepatocytes regulate diurnal rhythms in non-parenchymal cells in fatty liver disease caused by diet-induced obesity.

What are you most looking forward to at the 83rd Scientific Sessions?
I’m thrilled at the prospect of engaging with my colleagues in the field. I’m eager to hear about the latest advancements and learn from the foremost experts in our community.
