What is your presentation about?
Insulin secretion from beta cells inevitably produces metabolic stressors, which render beta cells dysfunctional. Stress response has to be activated to remove these stressors. Yet over-activation of stress-response also results in beta-cell failure. This presentation illustrates a novel molecular mechanism on how the beta-cells manage their stress-response levels to enable robust beta-cell function under normal physiology and metabolic stress.

What makes this topic important in 2021?
It is generally agreed that workload-induced stress response is a major reason for beta-failure and type 2 diabetes. Understanding how beta cells regulate the levels of stress response is a key for delaying/curing diabetes.
