Effects of Diabetes on Menopause Onset and Symptoms and Osteoporosis

In this presentation, the impact of diabetes on menopause onset, especially on the risk of early menopause, will be discussed. The challenges of the significant overlap of symptomatology between diabetes and menopause in terms of appropriate recognition of etiology of symptoms, risk of diabetes development based on menopausal symptoms, and complexities of symptoms’effects on diabetes disease risk will be highlighted. Finally, a discussion of the effects of diabetes on bone fracture risk, including limitations of traditional bone health measurements and changes to bone quality, will conclude the presentation.
