What is your presentation about?
This presentation will review epidemiology and risk factors of severe hypoglycemia in type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I will address the following questions in this presentation: 1. How common is severe hypoglycemia in type 1 and type 2 diabetes? 2. Which patients are at higher risk of severe hypoglycemia? 3. How common is impaired hypoglycemia awareness in diabetes? 4. What are the challenges in identifying hypoglycemia awareness status in clinical and research settings?

What makes this topic important in 2021?
Severe hypoglycemia is a major problem in both patients with type 1 and insulin-treated type 2 diabetes. Identifying patients at increased risk of severe hypoglycemia is critical to reducing the risk of future SH.

Which subset of attendees shouldn’t miss this presentation?
Clinicians treating patients with diabetes.
