Obesity impacts multiple organ systems\, and effective management of obesity as a chronic disease requires treating comorbid conditions. This symposium takes a unique approach to education. Following 3 short didactic presentations to set the stage\, learners will evaluate interesting cases\, presented on video from experts in other specialties. These cases will explore the treatment of obesity beyond weight loss\, including how to manage comorbidities\, with a particular focus on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease\, cardiovascular disease\, and osteoarthritis. \nThe audience will have an opportunity to assess treatment approaches for each case based on evidence from expert presentations and faculty discussions. These case discussions will revolve around a biopsychosocial model incorporating the recognition of comorbidities\, psychological aspects\, and practical pharmacotherapy approaches to care. \nIntended Audience \nThe activity is intended for endocrinologists and endocrinology HCPs who are interested in treating and managing obesity as part of a comprehensive cardiometabolic disease management plan. \nLearning Objectives \nUpon completion of this activity\, participants should be able to: \n\nDescribe the biological mechanisms of appetite and weight control that are dysregulated in people with obesity\nDiscuss the link between obesity and its comorbidities\, including cardiometabolic diseases\nEvaluate the latest clinical data on available and emerging antiobesity medications\nIdentify appropriate treatment plans for individuals with obesity and comorbid conditions\n\n  \nAgenda \n5:30 – 6:00 am Registration and Breakfast \n6:00 – 6:05 am Welcome and Introduction\nDomenica M Rubino\, MD—Program Chair \n6:05– 6:15 am Refocusing Obesity Care to Improve Long-Term Health Outcomes\nJaime Almandoz\, MD\, MBA\, FTOS\, MRCPI \n6:15 – 7:15 am Case-Based Panel Discussions \n\nCase 1\, Cardiology Conundrum \nCase 2\, Hepatology History\nCase 3\, Osteoarthritis Obstacle \n\nFaculty Panel\, moderated by Domenica M Rubino\, MD \n7:15 – 7:30 am Summary and Close\nPanel \nCME Accreditation and Credit Designation Statements \nThe Institute for Medical and Nursing Education\, Inc. Faculty will review novel treatment pathways that take into consideration the biology of obesity and the role of the liver and other metabolic organs in obesity. Expert-led\, knowledge-driven presentations will answer questions around the complex pathophysiological pathways involved in obesity\, discuss the need for newer therapies\, and focus on clinical data supporting a role for new and emerging agents to improve broader metabolic outcomes in people with obesity. \nCo-provided by International Medical Press Ltd. and the Institute for Medical and Nursing Education\, Inc. \nThe Institute for Medical and Nursing Education\, Inc. Despite the well-known evidence of the risks associated with obesity\, healthcare professionals remain hesitant to address weight loss with patients\, lack confidence in using weight loss pharmacotherapy\, and struggle to support patients in the lifelong journey to sustained weight loss. Because of the lack of availability of specialists in obesity management\, much of the responsibility to manage obesity falls on primary care providers. However\, primary care providers often cite lack of time\, competing priorities\, and lack of experience as top reasons for failing to prioritize weight loss\, even though it is often the underlying cause to many patients’ metabolic comorbidities (eg\, diabetes\, hypertension\, heart failure\, sleep apnea)\, which often take priority. \nThis live satellite symposium with simulcast will feature a panel of leading obesity experts. Key areas of focus will include current challenges in obesity management\, strategies for overcoming barriers to treatment of obesity\, and tips for implementation of obesity management in practice. Panel discussions will emphasize practical information for healthcare professionals that can be shared with primary care and community-based colleagues to improve the care of patients with overweight and obesity across multiple areas of practice. \nSpeakers\nJoanna Miragaya MD\, PhD\, FACE\, ABOM Diplomate\nWellstar Health System\nDepartment of Endocrinology\nHolly Springs\, GA \nDaniel Bessesen MD\nUniversity of Colorado\, School of Medicine\nDivision of Endocrinology\, Metabolism and Diabetes\nProfessor of Medicine\nDenver\, CO \nJamie Almandoz MD\, MBA\, FTOS\nUT Southwestern Medical Center\nInternal Medicine/Endocrinology\nAssociate Professor of Internal Medicine\nWeight Wellness\nMedical Director\nDallas\, TX URL:https://www.adameetingnews.org/event/sl000022463/ CATEGORIES:Corporate Symposium END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
